Oundle is an ancient market town with a long history of trading and business activity.

The majority of buildings in the centre of the town are listed and much of the town centre is a designated Conservation Area. A regular market in the centre of Oundle has been in existence for over a thousand years and still trades every Thursday and on the second Saturday of each month. There is a modest industrial zone off the A605 (Oundle Bypass) as well as a variety of shops and offices within the town.  The major employers are Fairline Boats and Oundle School.

The town acts as a hub of central services for the surrounding villages and contains a supermarket, restaurants, pubs and many traditional retailers. There are a number of excellent schools based in the town including the well known public school. The town hosts a variety of annual cultural events including the Oundle International Festival, the Oundle Festival of Music & Drama, the Oundle Festival of Literature and the Oundle Carnival.

Oundle enjoys very strong transport links with the A1, A14 and A47 all within 20 minutes drive. The nearest mainline train stations are located at Peterborough, Wellingborough and Kettering and can each provide a door to door journey time to central London in as little as an hour and a half.
